Last week Lyongo took his leave after 12 years as a board member of the Curacao Monument Care Foundation (Stichting Monumentenzorg Curacao).
The foundation is the oldest and largest organization in the field of monument conservation on the island. It manages approximately 120 monuments, including our office in Willemstad.
Some final thoughts and words
Lyongo looks back on an inspiring periode in which he was able to contribute to the conservation of the heritage of his beloved island. “Just before I took office, subsidies had diminished, so we had to find some other ways to make means available to preserve the heritage. I therefore advocated a more dynamic portfolio, in which you also offer buildings for sale.” In his work as a board member, Lyongo has also permanently placed sustainability on the foundation’s agenda.
The chairman of supervisory board, Herbert van der Woude showed great appreciation for all his efforts and ideas with a beautiful speech: “First and foremost, professionally as an architect, with a healthy down-to-earth but very creative and innovative out-of-the-box view on everything that has to do with technology.
