I hope this documentary inspires others, especially youngsters, in their quest of creating a better living environment for all.”

What is it about?
As a Caribbean architect your references for contemporary Caribbean architecture are limited. If you mention Caribbean music on the other hand, most people have some kind of idea on what you are referring to. Music styles, like reggae, calypso, soca, salsa, zouk and merengue are known all over the world. These music styles emerged out of the cocktail of African, European and many other influences, typically for the Caribbean people. But can we say the same for contemporary Caribbean architecture?
In this documentary, by Pim Gelevert, Lyongo Juliana visits various projects of lyongo architecture designed in the past 25 years together with young designers, clients, residents and local students. During the conversations he zooms in on topics such as: sustainability, heritage, demographic developments, social inclusion, climate and local culture. He questions if and how these different elements influence the architecture he makes and if it leads to contemporary Caribbean architecture.
