Premiere Kombiná Curacao and Bonaire

We are happy to share the festive news that our documentary Kombiná will soon premiere on Curacao and Bonaire. The documentary will be shown on December 5 in Otrobanda, Curacao and on December 8 in Kralendijk, Bonaire.

On Curacao, locations including the Mongui Maduro Library, the Curacao Medical Center, the Sapaté district and the Mangrove Park will be visited. On Bonaire, the viewer will visit a number of modern villas like Villa Catalina and Villa van de Sande. During these scenes the conversations with the local population focus on the impact of increasing tourism of the island.

About the documentary

The term contemporary Caribbean music appeals to everyone’s imagination. But what about contemporary Caribbean architecture? This question is central to the new documentary by the Social Design Foundation, in which architect Lyongo Juliana makes an in-depth search for contemporary Caribbean architecture.

In the documentary, Lyongo visits various projects that he has designed on the islands over the past 25 years. Together with young designers, residents and students, he discusses important themes such as sustainability, heritage, social inclusion, climate and local culture. He investigates whether and how these elements influence the architecture he creates. The movie invites you to think: is there such a thing as contemporary Caribbean architecture? Order a ticket and find out!
