Our latest project on the Ronde Klipweg in Jongbloed, Curacao, has been completed. We designed a modern apartment next to an existing house, with a lot of attention for privacy and harmony between the buildings.
The client wanted to add an independent living space on the same plot, to rent it out. But it was important that the tenants and residents could live comfortably next to each other. That is why we incorporated smart height differences and a unique layout in the design, so that both users experience privacy.
Lower location
The apartment is positioned 1.2 meters lower than the house. This height difference fits in nicely with the natural slope of the terrain and contributes to the privacy between both units. Not withstanding the lower location the apartment is still very well naturally ventilated. You will find shutters in the windows and doors. These ensure a regulated passage of wind, making sure that the spaces remain fresh.
Modern design
Our design has sleek lines and no organic shapes, to give the building a timeless appearance. This contrasts nicely with the existing house. The house is more expressive in shape and color, while the apartment has a calm and modern appearance. In this way, the house remains the most important building.
